Detroit Lions Former Linebacker Jessie Lemonier Has Passed Away at 25 Years Old

Jessie Lemonier, a former Detroit Lions linebacker that last played in the league in January of 2022, has passed away at the young age of 25 years old. On Thursday, the Lions confirmed Lemonier’s death via a statement that reads, “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of former Detroit Lion Jessie Lemonier, Jessie was a model teammate and wonderful young man who is gone far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

The Los Angeles Chargers who originally signed Lemonier as an undrafted free agent in 2020 also released a statement that reads, “Gone too soon. Our hearts are with Jessie’s family, friends and loved ones.”

Lemonier was in six games for the Los Angeles Chargers and after getting waived in August of 2021, he was signed by the Lions. He had a total of 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks over the course of seven games before he was waived once again last May. He then was claimed off of waivers by the Arizona Cardinals before being released in August prior to the start of the 2022 season.

Jessie Lemonier then continued his football career with the XFL, getting drafted by the Arlington Renegades in November before he was signed with the USFL’s Houston Gamblers. After that he was sent to the Birmingham Stallions.
